Salesforce is a US-based customer relationship management (CRM) application that offers marketing automation and analytics tools. This article will help you set up <\/span>Salesforce email SPF<\/b> and DKIM Records on your DNS to eliminate unauthorized domain use and increase security.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SPF records allow receiving servers to check whether an email with the specified source domain was actually sent from a server authorized by the owner of this domain.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

DKIM adds a digital record to each message. This allows the receiving server to check if the message has been sent from an authorized sender, faked, or changed upon delivery.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salesforce SPF Record Configuration<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Salesforce, by default, uses their own domain as the Return-Path domain. This means DMARC will fail with respect to SPF.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The solution is to disable the Bounce Management and Email Security Compliance from your Salesforce admin console.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note: Once you disable Bounce Management, Salesforce will no longer automatically handle your bounced addresses. Instead, you\u2019ll have to receive all your bounces\/failed email deliveries to your sending email address.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1:<\/b> Click on Setup > Email Administration > Deliverability<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Step 2: <\/b>Deselect the checkbox for “Activate bounce management”<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3:<\/b> Deselect<\/span> “Enable compliance with standard email security mechanisms”<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4: <\/b>Click \u201cSave\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 5: <\/b>Add Salesforce SPF mechanism \u201cinclude:_spf.salesforce.com\u201d in your SPF Record.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 6: <\/b>Update your DNS TXT Record for SPF at your domain provider<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Important Note: Make sure you don\u2019t create multiple SPF TXT records on one domain. If you do, <\/span><\/i>Salesforce email SPF<\/i><\/b> will return a <\/span><\/i>PermError<\/span><\/i><\/a>.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are using multiple IPs, ESPs, Third-Party services, include them in a single SPF Record.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

E.g v=spf1 ip4:17.67.137.221 include:_spf.salesforce.com include:thirdpartyservice.com ~all<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note: <\/strong>If you’re using EasySPF, you can skip manually adding the record to your DNS zone and instead add the include directly within your EasySPF configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salesforce DKIM Record Configuration<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: <\/b>Click on Setup > Email Administration > DKIM Keys<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2: <\/b>Create a New Key with Salesforce<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3:<\/b> Click <\/span>\u201c<\/b>Save\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this example, we\u2019ll be using:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. 2048-bit DKIM key size<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. DKIM selector<\/span><\/a> \u201csf1\u201d and alternate selector \u201csf2\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. \u201ckhatchoian.com\u201d for the domain<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Enter the same exact domain in the\u00a0Domain Match Pattern\u00a0<\/strong>filed.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Step 4: <\/b>Go “Back to List” and click on your added selector<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 5: <\/b>Add the provided CNAME Records in your DNS (Cloudflare, GoDaddy, etc.)<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

    And you\u2019re all set! Congrats, you now successfully authenticated your outgoing mail stream from Salesforce with SPF and DKIM.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
