The data was posted on the same dark web forum used by the cybercriminals accountable for the Optus breach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The stolen Telstra<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">data included first and last names and 30,000 staff members&#8217; work email addresses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company announced it&#8217;d reset the passwords of all users to master caution.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/easydmarc.com\/blog\/weekly-email-security-news-recap-2-october-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Over 400 Malicious Mobile Apps Targeted Facebook Users<\/b><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moving onto the next cybersecurity news story, Facebook users were targeted by a widespread group of malware-infected applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meta announced its security researchers discovered 400+ malicious mobile apps on Google&#8217;s Play Store and Apple&#8217;s App Store.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The malicious apps aim to steal Facebook login credentials, which would cause cybercriminals to hijack accounts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These apps include photo editors, VPNs, games, business utility apps, phone utility apps, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The malicious apps were available in third-party app stores, users were warned to be careful when downloading a new app that requires social media credentials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In its report, Meta listed the apps, which included:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apex Race Game<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dress up Charming<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bamboo VPN<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candles VPN<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cartoon Face Photo Editor<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teana Music Player<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The credential-harvesting scheme began when the user installed the malicious app.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meta advised its users to take security measures like deleting the malicious app, resetting Facebook login credentials, and enabling two-factor authentication on Facebook.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/easydmarc.com\/blog\/weekly-email-security-news-recap-2-october-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Binance Bridge Vulnerability Exploited Causing $566M Theft<\/b><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next up, we have 2022&#8217;s second major cyberattack in cryptocurrency, which occurred in October.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A threat actor exploited a vulnerability on the world\u2019s largest cryptocurrency exchange platform, Binance, via its native cross-chain bridge. Two million Binance Coins (BNB) (about $566 million) were stolen as a result.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hacker got the BSC Token Hub to send one million Binance Coins twice before trading the loot for other crypto assets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The malicious actor used ChangeNOW, an account-free crypto exchange company, to finance the cyberattack<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">statement<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the hacker also moved funds through other crypto exchange platforms, including PancakeSwap, SushiSwap, and Curve Finance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao announced that user funds are safe and the investigation is ongoing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/easydmarc.com\/blog\/weekly-email-security-news-recap-3-october-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>2.2M MyDeal Users&#8217; Data Compromised<\/b><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On October 14th, MyDeal marketplace suffered a massive <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/easydmarc.com\/blog\/what-is-a-data-breach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">data breach<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after a hacker accessed the company&#8217;s customer relationship management (CRM) system using compromised user credentials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cybercriminal compromised 2.2 million customers&#8217; data and tried to sell it on a hacker forum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The data breach exposed names, phone numbers, email addresses, delivery addresses, birth dates, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the incident, MyDeal sent data breach notifications to affected customers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/thehackernews.com\/2022\/10\/australian-health-insurer-medibank.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Medibank Breach Exposes 3.9 Million Customers&#8217; Data<\/b><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other cybersecurity news, the Australian private health insurance firm revealed on October 26th that it had suffered a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/easydmarc.com\/blog\/ransomware-attacks-a-complete-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ransomware attack<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The personal information of all 3.9 million of its customers has been exposed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The firm <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medibank.com.au\/health-insurance\/info\/cyber-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the cybercriminals had access to significant amounts of health claims data and personal data belonging to its AHM health insurance subsidiary and international students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company also said it&#8217;s continuing its probe to determine what specific data has been stolen in the attack and that it\u2019ll directly notify affected customers of the matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The incident became the subject of an investigation by the Australian Federal Police when Medibank <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.medibank.com.au\/livebetter\/newsroom\/post\/medibank-cyber-incident-response\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">admitted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that it had been contacted by a cybercriminal who claimed to have stolen 200GB of data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The information contained:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First names and surnames<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dates of birth<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Phone numbers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Addresses<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medicare numbers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Policy numbers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company assesses the cybercrime to cost approximately AU$25 million to AU$35 million.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medibank promised to provide free identity monitoring services and financial support for the affected, recommending that its customers stay alert for any <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/easydmarc.com\/blog\/phishing-attacks-recognize-and-avoid-email-phishing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">phishing attacks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/media\/new-york-posts-twitter-account-hacked-rcna54293\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>New York Post Twitter Account Hacked By Employee Posting Offensive Headlines Targeting Politicians<\/b><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Thursday, a spokesperson confirmed that an employee hacked the New York Post&#8217;s Twitter account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0The employee posted offensive messages designed to look like actual headlines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NY Post is one of New York City&#8217;s prestigious publications, known for its headlines and conservative-leaning editorials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The malicious content was immediately removed, but NBC News journalists screenshotted the tweets before they were taken down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The posts included fake headlines about New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Democratic Rep.
