Some researchers discovered that workers get an average of 14 malicious emails annually. Google agreed to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/14\/technology\/google-privacy-settlement.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$391.5 million historic privacy settlement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/databreaches.net\/2022\/11\/17\/meta-fires-employees-and-contractors-for-improperly-accessing-users-accounts-and-selling-them-to-hackers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meta<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> fired employees for accessing users&#8217; accounts and selling them to hackers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some cybersecurity news and email security news stories making headlines this week.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/thehackernews.com\/2022\/11\/chinese-hackers-using-42000-imposter.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Massive Phishing Attack Campaign Through 42,000 Imposter Domains\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 2019, a large-scale phishing campaign has been exploiting the popularity and trust of famous international brands. The group is said to originate from China and is financially motivated. The cybercriminals, dubbed \u201cFangxiao\u201d<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by Cyjax, have registered over 42,000 imposter domains since 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The threat actors target businesses across various industries, including banking, travel, retail, and energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Victims are tricked into spreading the campaign via Whatsapp by financial motivations as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Users click on a link sent through a messaging app.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They\u2019re then directed to an actor-controlled website.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The website sends them to a landing domain impersonating a famous brand.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The victims are taken to websites distributing fraudulent apps and fake rewards.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These websites encourage visitors to complete a survey to claim cash prizes if they forward the message to 20 friends or five groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final redirect depends on the IP address of the victim and the browser&#8217;s User-Agent string.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 400 organizations are being imitated because of the criminal scheme. These organizations include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coca-Cola<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McDonald&#8217;s<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shopee<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emirates<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indomie<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unilever<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knorr<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Large organizations like the ones mentioned above are impersonated daily, making this campaign an effective method to lure victims to various domains, implant malware, use referral links, and become exposed to ads and adware.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This kind of cybersecurity news story proves how crucial domain security is to all organizations \u2014 no matter their size.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/thehackernews.com\/2022\/11\/hive-ransomware-attackers-extorted-100.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Over 1,300 Companies Worldwide Targeted by Hive Ransomware Attackers\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over 1,300 companies worldwide have been attacked by a Hive ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) scheme, which earned the gang $100 million in illegal payments as of November 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A wide range of business infrastructure sectors has been damaged by the ransomware, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Communications<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Government facilities<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Critical manufacturing<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Information technology<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The U.S. cybersecurity and intelligence authorities said in an alert that healthcare and Public Health (HPH) had also been targeted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since June 2021, Hive&#8217;s RaaS operation has involved developers who make and control the malware and affiliates responsible for leading the attacks on target networks by buying initial access from brokers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cybercriminal recently upgraded its malware to Rust as a detection evasion measure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CISA stated that Hive actors had been known to reinfect (with either Hive or another ransomware variant) the networks of targeted organizations who have fixed their network without providing a ransom payment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Malwarebytes, a cybersecurity company, shared data which confirms Hive compromised about seven victims in August 2022, 14 in September, and two other entities in October.
