During our recent webinar, ‘Beyond the Firewall: Packaging Cybersecurity for MSPs’ we asked our audience what would be a tip that they would pass on to anyone considering becoming an MSP.

The answers provided proved insightful and, in some cases, could equally apply to our lives in general. Below the collective wisdom of the crowd.

At the beginning of the webinar, we asked our audience the following question:

‘What’s one quick tip that you’d give to other MSPs looking to enhance their cybersecurity offer?’

Here are their answers:

✅ “Review their customer agreements and strengthen them.”
✅ “Find products that are able to be multi-tenanted so it is easier to manage.”
✅ “Update your security stack annually and brand it with the year so you can upsell every year.”
✅ “Make cybersecurity  a requirement of your base offering.”
✅ “Combine your cybersecurity offer with cyber insurance offering.”
✅ “Understand the Importance of clean up –  You can’t fully secure their systems  without a full evaluation of devices and user policies.”
✅ “Talk about risk with your clients and how they are going to manage it.”
✅ “Create a good monitoring system to show clearly the security status of clients. This will allow a clear view of what is happening to them and enable you to respond quickly.”
✅ “There are so many options and packages thrown at MSPs. Read the small print and make sure it does what you want so you don’t get the call at 3am.”
✅ “Assess to show their risks and close the gap between that and their risk appetite.Show what you can offer to help them not only close that gap but enable them to grow.”
✅ “Be able to discuss offerings at a level understood by laymen.”
✅ “AI implementation and doing it securely.”
✅ “Be able to show value to clients by your ability to mitigate risk while being responsive to their needs.”
✅ “Focus on a core set of security products. Package with the offering 24/7 monitoring (we know before you know). Always lead the discussion with security. Start every conversation with security as the Number one concern. Do quarterly reviews with each client focussed on security and showing them high-level reports. Upsell when new cybersecurity incidents occur.”
✅ “Stay in front of your clients, listen to your clients, and match your services to their challenges.”
✅ “Most clients are not technical, so discuss the business effects of ignoring security threats and what are their plans when they are attacked, because without any plans they are going to put their business at risk and stay away from being technical.”
✅ “Good training for yourself is to deploy EasyDMARC for your own domain and work as if it’s a Real client. Then choose a client to do for free, that;s how to gain experience with the product.”
