  • Two-thirds of respondents expect email providers like Google and Yahoo to introduce mandatory email authentication (DMARC, DKIM, SPF) for more users in the future.

Global, November 6th, 2024 – New research from EasyDMARC has revealed that 62% of IT organizations have experienced revenue growth in their cybersecurity offerings over the past 12 months, largely driven by increasing customer demand.

The survey, conducted among 1,000 IT workers and decision-makers- including MSPs and MSSPs- across the US & UK, highlights the expanding focus on cybersecurity and the challenges organizations face in adapting to emerging threats and market expectations, particularly as AI-driven risks and regulatory changes reshape the landscape.

Cybersecurity offerings and growth

The landscape of IT services is shifting, with an increasing emphasis on cybersecurity solutions. According to the study, 52% of respondents’ organizations currently offer email security services, and an additional 14% plan to implement these services in the near future. Furthermore, a third of respondents reported that cybersecurity comprises most or all of their service offerings, contrasting with the 24% whose organizations do not offer any cybersecurity solutions.

Over the past year, 41% of organizations have expanded their cybersecurity offerings, driven by customer demand (45%), the growing threat landscape (28%), and the need to meet existing or anticipated regulatory requirements (16%). Notably, 62% of respondents reported revenue growth from cybersecurity services, with 28% experiencing growth rates between 11-25% and 13% seeing growth of up to 50%.

Client behavior and proactiveness

According to the managed service providers (MSPs) and Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) surveyed, client attitudes toward cybersecurity reveal a varied landscape. Over one-fifth (21%) of MSPs believe their clients are not proactive at all regarding cybersecurity. Another 21% view their clients as highly proactive, while the majority (48%) indicate that clients are generally proactive but could improve their approach. Despite these efforts, more than a quarter of respondents expressed minimal or no confidence in their clients’ ability to withstand a cyberattack.

Market trends and future expectations

The past year has shown an upward trajectory in demand for cybersecurity services. 58% of respondents observed an increase in customer requests for cybersecurity support. Moreover, over two-thirds (69%) of respondents are either already experiencing or anticipate increased demand for integrated cybersecurity solutions within the next 12 months, with 26% reporting a rise in related inquiries.

Emerging technologies are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the industry. A notable 72% of respondents believe that AI and automation will significantly influence MSP offerings over the next three years. The growing concerns around AI-generated phishing emails and deepfake impersonations are seen as the most pressing email security threats for 2025, as cited by 60% of respondents, with ransomware via email ranking third at 7%.

Respondents are also looking to email service providers for support; two-thirds predict that major email providers like Google and Yahoo will implement mandatory email authentication (using DMARC, DKIM, and SPF protocols) for more users moving forward.

Challenges and barriers

The path to successfully selling cybersecurity services is not without obstacles. The main barriers identified by MSPs include client confidence in existing protections(54%) and cost concerns (52%). Other barriers included, a lack of urgency or awareness of cyber risks (39%). clients’ difficulty in recognizing immediate benefits (39%), and a shortage of in-house expertise (39%).

Mike Anderson, Global Channels Director, EasyDMARC, responded to the research, saying: “Cybersecurity is becoming a non-negotiable aspect of business strategy, and it’s encouraging to see that customers recognize this need. The data shows that customer demand is the main catalyst behind increased investment in cybersecurity resources across IT businesses, a clear indication that companies are taking proactive steps to protect themselves from quickly evolving threats, though there is further room for action.

“MSPs, MSSPs, and IT consultancies are positioning themselves to not only meet current expectations but to anticipate future needs, ensuring organizations have the robust cybersecurity support required to stay ahead of emerging threats. For security vendors, this means providing the right resources, from comprehensive training and adaptable, easily-integrated solutions that empower their partners to deliver on the highest level of protection for their clients.”
