Key Findings at a Glance
1. More companies are adopting DMARC
Global adoption is rising, driven by regulatory guidance and inbox provider requirements
Momentum is building, but awareness alone does not guarantee protection
2. Enforcement remains the missing link
Over 80% of domains globally either lack a DMARC record or use a non-enforcing policy (p=none)
Many organisations treat DMARC as a compliance checkbox rather than an active defense
3. Most domains still lack reporting & visibility
Global adoption is rising, driven by regulatory guidance and inbox provider requirements
Momentum is building, but awareness alone does not guarantee protection
DMARC Adoption in Australia
EasyDMARC conducted research in June 2024 and June 2025 to assess DMARC adoption in Australia:
Coverage increased from 9.89% to 26.34%
70% of domains with DMARC use a non-enforcing policy (p=none)
Only 16.9% of domains have adopted a strict "reject" policy
Just 13.5% of Australian domains are fully protected against phishing
Global DMARC Trends
Analysis of top 1.8 million domains globally shows:
Growing adoption from 27.3% in 2023 to 47.6% in 2025
Many organizations remain at risk
Misconfigured or overly permissive policies (p=none) leave domains vulnerable
These issues can disrupt legitimate email flow
Summary Statement
To truly reduce phishing and domain spoofing, organisations must move from passive monitoring to active enforcement. Email service providers play a critical role in encouraging or requiring stronger policies, such as quarantine or reject.
